In Texas, state funding is based on student attendance — when scholars miss class, not only do they lose the benefit of direct instruction, AISD loses state funding. Every minute missed adds up, making attendance a key part of our financial picture and scholar success.
With a 94.43% attendance rate, more than 200 AISD scholars are absent on an average school day. This equates to more than $8,160 in state funding losses each day and $1.4 million in state funding losses each year due to scholar absences.
Enrollment also impacts funding and AISD is experiencing small, but steady increases in scholar enrollment. The district has averaged annual increases over the last five years of 0.87 percent.
School districts use both enrollment projections and average daily attendance to determine their budget. However, state funding is determined based on who shows up each day to school. AISD’s 2025-26 attendance rate was 94.43%.

Scholars who miss school are missing out on learning opportunities as well as invaluable social experiences. In our classrooms, scholars learn not only subject matter but also essential life skills such as working together, communicating effectively, and building positive relationships with their peers. These soft skills are crucial for their personal and professional development and can only be improved through consistent attendance and interaction with others.
It’s important for scholars to be on time and in school all day, every day.
