Filling the AISD Tank
The majority of funding for AISD comes from the State of Texas (61.3%) with another 36.2% coming from local sources and federal funding topping off the tank at 1.5%.

U-turns and detours are sometimes necessary because these funding levels can rise or fall based on factors like attendance, property values, and legislative decisions.
To ensure a balanced budget, AISD is relying on about $413,000 to cover expenditures beyond local, state and federal revenue streams. This flow from fund balance is just under 1% of the district’s revenue and reveals the district’s focus on conservative spending and strengthening the fund balance account to address unexpected bumps in the road.
The information found on this page reflects the AISD 2025-26 budget. The Board of Trustees will approve the 2026-27 budget at the end of August and the tax rate in mid-September. We will update this site with 2026-27 information after approval.
Caution: State Funding Traffic Jam
Per student state funding has remained virtually unchanged since 2019 at $6,160 per student. The 89th Texas Legislature did increase funding by $55 bringing the per student allotment to $6,215, however, this falls significantly short of the amount needed to keep up with inflation.
Texas still ranks low among the 50 states when it comes to school funding per student.
Attendance Drives State Funding
State funds are calculated on our Alvarado ISD scholars’ attendance using the state’s per student Basic Allotment.
With a 94.43% attendance rate, more than 200 AISD scholars are absent on an average school day. This equates to more than $8,160 in state funding losses each day and $1.4 million in state funding losses each year due to scholar absences.
